Last month, a member of the Ecova team received a “Legend of Energy”award from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Since 2008, these awards have been given each year at the World Energy Engineering Congress, honoring those who have made significant contributions to the field of energy efficiency. The AEE’s goal is to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development. Janice Boman certainly has achieved these lofty goals!
As a certified energy manager with more than 30 years in the utility industry, Janice is one of just a few women who have received the Legends of Energy award. Starting in the industry in 1982 as an energy auditor focused on energy efficiency in homes, Janice progressed over the years with Seattle City Light, eventually managing the Community Conservation division where she began her career. Since joining Ecova in 2011, Janice works to support NW utilities build and design energy efficiency programs, bringing her expertise to even greater audiences for increased impact on energy savings.
Janice traces her focus on energy back to the first Earth Day in the early 1970’s. As a teenager, Janice was very influenced by this event, and started college with an environmental science major. She feels lucky to have found her passion so young, and has made a career doing what she loves.
Now that she has a distinguished award, Janice hopes it will help her continue to do what she enjoys―mentor others who are just launching their energy efficiency careers. Janice hopes to share her experience by communicating how everyone in the industry, regardless of job title, can make a difference with this important work.
We are honored to have Janice as part of our team!
