Today, Earth Day 2016, representatives from 175 countries convened at the UN meeting in New York City and signed the COP21 Paris Agreement, which was adopted this past December in Paris. “This is by far the largest number of countries ever to sign an international agreement on a single day.” stated Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General. The agreement outlines our collective path forward for national, state and municipal governments around the globe to keep global temperature rise well below 2 degrees Celsius this century.
Gérard Mestrallet, CEO of ENGIE, Ecova’s parent company, participated in today’s Sustainable Development Goals session at the UN meeting, declaring, “It is a great day for business.” ENGIE played a significant role in coordinating a group of business leaders to contribute to the climate negotiations in Paris, called the Business Dialogue.
