While legislative efforts in Connecticut have yet to yield a building energy-use disclosure policy, the state government mandates energy usage benchmarking in state-owned and operated buildings 10,000 sq. ft. or greater using the U.S. EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager. In 2015, the state upped the ante, requiring newly-constructed state-owned facilities and renovation projects to achieve a score of 75 or greater on the EPA’s national energy performance rating system.
Connecticut has also legislated statewide mandatory composting, requiring certain businesses to source-separate and recycle organic materials, and mandatory recycling of designated items.
