In addition to its commitment to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge, the City of Orlando has set a public goal to cut its GHG emissions to half its 2010 levels by 2024 through participation in the City Energy Project. As part of the Better Buildings Challenge, Orlando is upgrading lighting, renovating HVAC systems, and installing building automation and controls in 56 municipal facilities.
Elsewhere in the Sunshine State, Miami-Dade County implemented a recycling ordinance applicable to all condominium associations and commercial businesses way back in 1992. Over in Miami Beach, the City Commission adopted an ordinance mandating a single-stream recycling program for multi-family residences and commercial establishments effective July, 2014.
