Vermont Regulations

Regulatory Update

While Vermont’s Building Energy Rating and Disclosure Policies legislative effort was dropped in 2012, municipalities in Vermont may be picking up where the state left off. Burlington, in particular, is seeing increased pressure from the Vermont Green Building Network to enact legislation requiring commercial building energy benchmarking.

Meanwhile, Vermont’s Act 89 of 2013 requires the establishment of a working group to develop building energy disclosure tools for both residential and commercial buildings. By Dec 15, 2016, the Vermont Public Service Department is required to submit a report to the legislature with an update on the effectiveness of voluntary disclosure and labeling efforts, including a recommendation on whether building energy disclosure should be made mandatory.
